Blended Learning Initiative
The Blended Learning Initiative was approved in Fall 2004 with the goal to create dual-use online/hybrid courses and programs that address the following objectives:
- Increase access to strategically important Penn State curricula through fully online World Campus delivery and, via the e-Learning Cooperative, to campus colleges to attract new students and improve retention. Courses will be developed for dual use, allowing campuses the option of offering courses fully online or as hybrid classroom courses, ensuring the greatest flexibility for students.
- Enhance flexibility and convenience for students through the integration of face-to-face instruction with online learning communities.
- Enhance quality and effectiveness in high-enrolling courses at University Park and elsewhere, contributing to a more engaged student experience.
- Test and assess new pedagogies that center around active, inquiry-based, resource-oriented learning through the creation of virtual learning communities that will improve the student experience.
- Position Penn State at all locations to respond to high-demand workforce and economic needs of Pennsylvania.
